MacFans
Fan control for Apple Silicon Macs. It lives in the menu bar and uses almost nothing.

What it does
- Shows each fan's live speed, plus its minimum and maximum, from the menu bar.
- Reads every temperature sensor. CPU and GPU show their core average, with the hottest core beside it.
- Pins a fan to 25%, 50%, 75% or Max, or to any speed you pick with the slider.
- Profiles make the fan follow a temperature curve, CPU or GPU load, or a daily schedule. A timer runs any speed or profile for a while, then goes back.
- Double-click the menu bar icon for the full window: live gauges, every sensor, and a curve editor you drag.
- Automatic hands the fan back to macOS. Quitting MacFans does the same, so a fan is never left pinned.
- Updates itself. Each update is checked against the publisher's signature before it is installed.
Install
- Open the downloaded DMG and drag MacFans into Applications.
- Open MacFans from Applications. It is signed and notarised by Apple, so it opens like any other app.
- A fan icon appears in the menu bar. The first time you change a fan's speed, MacFans asks for your admin password once, to install the small helper that writes fan speeds.
Requirements
- A Mac with Apple silicon and at least one fan. The fanless MacBook Air has nothing to control.
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
